Student Use of AI in School

Why do students use AI?

Students use A.I for numerous reasons but it boils down to six big ones:

Stress: Students often struggle with procrastination, and when they are juggling heavy course loads, athletics, and extracurriculars, AI can feel like a quick escape. AI is a convenient shortcut when there is too much to manage and too little time.

Laziness: When motivation drops, it is easy to let AI handle the boring or repetitive tasks. Writing essays or solving basic problems feels easier when you can pass it off to a machine instead of thinking it through yourself.

Parental Pressure: With many families tying success to grades, students may feel intense pressure to use every tool they can. AI becomes just another way to meet the high expectations placed on them.

Anxiety: Fear of failure or the desire to be perfect can make it hard to get started or take risks. AI gives students a safety net where they can test ideas and wording without fear of getting it wrong.

Grade-Over-Growth Mindset: When getting an A matters more than truly learning the material, AI becomes a tool to chase grades. Instead of helping students grow, it ends up being used to boost scores with less effort.
